Great Collection of Christmas Romance Stories

One Hot Scot by Suzanne Enoch

An english woman alone in the Highlands running from an over zealous suitor who kidnapped her. A handsome Highlander rescues her and brings her back to his cabin.
A strorm traps them for the night alone together. He has to hide her from the man hunting her and gets caught in the middle of two clans. He has two younger sisters that he has to protect and doesn't want any trouble. She just wants to go home without causing a scandal. Julia and Duncan are both intelligent strong characters in a perilous situation. If you love adventure, romance you will enjoy this story. This short story is connected to her Scandalous Highlander Series. I have all of her books and really enjoy her writing.

Once Upon a Christmas Scandal by Alexandra Hawkins

This is a great short story that continues the Lords of Vice Series. Lord Vanewright from "Sunrise With A Notorious Lord" has a younger sister, Ellen who just wants to stay home and take care of her father who is dying. She finds out that her parents have tripeled her dowry and are having a house party for christmas and inviting eligible bachelors. One of the guests is Derrick Hunt, Earl of Swainsbury. He has a secret agenda for being at the house party. His sister was killed by a fortune hunter and he has been trying to find him ever since. He knows if the killer hears about Ellen's dowry she is in danger. She thinks he is a fortune hunter like the rest. This is a stand alone story, but I would urge you to read the whole Lords of Vice series. You will not be disappointed. Alexandra is an amazing historical romance author.

The Scandal Before Christmas by Elizabeth Essex

This is my first Elizabeth Essex book and I will definetely being reading more of her.

Take one shy spinster and a bold navy officer and trap them together at a country house party in a snowstorm and the fun begins. When they first meet Ian sees Ann as a plain, awkward, shy mouse who doesn't speak. Ann sees a ton gentleman who is handsome, charming and very confident. She agreed to marry him to escape her overbearing mother and he is marrying her to spite his aristocratic father. Can Ian bring her out of her shell? Will Ann open up to Ian and let him see the real person behind the dowdy spinster? This is a very sensual and lovely romance story that I enjoyed very much.

It Happened Under The Mistletoe by Valerie Bowman

Imagine yourself at a house party at christmas time with young and old gentlemen looking for an heiress and young women trying to snare a title. Oliver Townsende the new Duke of Markham is ruthlessly being pursued by a young lady and her mother and Cerian Blake is trying to avoid being trapped into marriage to any man. They both decide to hide in the same silver closet to outwit their pursuers. Oliver comes up with a plan to thwart their pursurers, pretend that he and Cerian are courting and when the house party ends they go their seperate ways. The only problem is that they are attracted to each other their scheme goes awry. This story has great twists and turns and will captivate you from beginning to end. Oh yeah, there is also a mysterious matchmaking feline. Great Story.

One Hot Scot by Suzanne Enoch

This is a fun, romantic and fast paced short story that I very much enjoyed. It's the second book that I've read of Suzanne Enoch's the first being book one of the series "The Devil Wares Kilts" a 5* read that I highly recommend.
The title is very true and Duncan is really one hot scot. He and Julia had great chemistry and even though their relationship move incredible fast it was also believable with how they felt for each other even with just meeting. I can not wait to read the next book.

Once Upon a Christmas Scandal by Alexandra Hawkins

I enjoyed the short story but felt very lost in the beginning. This is the end I think of a series and to truly enjoy you need to read the series. That way you have a understanding and knowledge of the secondary characters. Ellen and Derrick had a very fast and quick relationship over the Christmas Holliday to quick for me but still enjoyable. I may just go back and start at the beginning of the series.

I'm really not sure if I enjoyed this story or not. I finished it and if I've done that I usually give it a 3* rating because it kept my attention enough to finish it. But I did not enjoy the way it was written. The language/wording was a bit hard to understand for me, at times I had to reread the sentence. There were times in the story that I felt the chemistry between Ian and Anne but then it would be gone.

This is the first story I've read by Valerie Bowman and it will not be my last. I laughed and cried throughout the book and I loved the hero and heroine along with the secondary characters. Oliver and Cerian had great chemistry and it was a pleasure to read how they found their HEA.

Great Holiday Anthology

A lovely little collection of holiday novellas, Christmas Brides was a sweet and enjoyable read. All four of the novellas were great and I liked each one.

All the novellas in this book have been previously published, so I'd already read (and loved) 3 of them. Once Upon a Christmas Scandal was the only one that I hadn't read and I really liked it as well. With its engaging character, hint of a murder mystery, and delightful romance, it was definitely an enjoyable read, just like the others. This book is definitely a perfect read for getting into the holiday mood. Each book added its own take on the holidays and I liked them all.

Christmas Brides was a wonderful holiday romance anthology that I really liked. All of the novellas were great and I enjoyed them all. Romance lovers, if you want something to get you into the holiday mood, then this is a book you won't want to miss.

Jean Jacques Machado is one of the five brothers of the world renowned Brazilian jiu-jitsu family. Jay Zeballos is a black belt under Jean Jacques Machado and is active as a competitor, teacher, and student. He is a cofounder of Lo9on, Inc., a website design company that developed and manages the Jean Jacques Global Online Training Program. He lives in Quartz Hill, California. They are the coauthors of The Grappler s Handbook: Gi and No-Gi Techniques.

Very good book on the grappling defense...with gi

I just borrowed this book from the local library. It is well written with numerous pictures. It covers both basic BJJ defensive techniques as well as multiple variations to escape common dominant position. JJ Machado shows his true mastery of brazilian jiu-jitsu.

I am giving it four stars instead of five for a few little things. First, all the pictures are with the instructors wearing a gi. Second, while some of the techniques can be used for no-gi grappling or MMA, the book does not specify which ones until you read thru the captions. While comprehensive, it seems to primarily focus on traditional grappling with a gi at the expense of other methods.

Nevertheless, I am impressed and find it useful. It should be considered as a supplement if you have a martial arts library.

One of the best reference materials I've had the pleasure of reading. I take the style jiu jitsu seriously. Therefore my game is massively defense based. Literally gentle. This book not only fine tuned my existing defensive tools, it has completely rewritten them. I cant recommend this book enough. A must have for ANY serious grappled.

Despite the fact that this is volume 2, it is the most relevant book a beginner can read. Don't hesitate to start with this book before volume 1. The approach is instructional.

Did i read the same book?! I'm only rating this a one because their isn't a 'straight to scrap heap category'

For those of you haven't read the Unfaithful Wife - STEER CLEAR - i can't see anything redeeming about this book, the heroine is a candidate for a Women's Refuge..

- the H had slept with other women when he married the h, he basically left her in exile to live an empty life with him for five years, during this time she had to put up with snide looks from colleagues at his dinners and she didn't know what she had done. When she actually thinks she's in love with someone else (of course she isn't and doesn't sleep with him) - he forces her into a physical relationship - now that he (His Lordship) is ready to be married to her. There is no grovelling from him (even though i still wouldn't have liked him) he constantly tells her he knows she loves him and still treats her like crap - at the end she finds out it was because her father had blackmailed him into it. His excuse for sleeping with other women and not her - well - he didn't want to sleep with her and cheat on her. He never even spoke to her about why he was that way with her and the author just created a wimp for him to use as a bashing board.

An opinion you may have is that because they didn't consumate their marriage it wasn't really infidelity on his part - (the marriage taking place wasn't enough....) now okay fine the 'sleeping with other women' is enough to put me off in itself but the fact that he put the woman he so-called loved (during all that time) in a position where she had to take the humiliation and innuendos from his guests during those five LONG years - makes it even worse (is this a man you could like? can he really be that cruel and not see it?) and then this H had the gall to feel enraged when pictures of her and this other man were nearly printed in the paper. The author then tries to give the impression that his affairs were discreet and just hinted at by his guests, he doesn't even so much as open his mouth to grovel for her at the end - and then the author or Harlequin - rub salt on the wound by friggin thinking of THAT TITLE!

You do mean Unfaithful Husband Don't you??????

I guess everyone has their own point of view. I really just can't understand the positives. The Heroine was totally innocent and the Hero/if you can call him that treated her like crap. She fell in Love with him when she was 17 and she thought he loved her too when they married, but he just ignored her and went off with other women which when she had to go to all the formal dinners etc, everyone knew about, she was totally humiliated and pitied for 5 years while he treated her like that, all the while knowing that she loved him. I don't know anyone who would suffer that kind of abuse because that's what it is mental and emotional abuse. Okay he was blackmailed by her father into marriage, but that wasn't her fault, it was her fathers and she suffered for 5 years for that, what did he suffer????? When her father died he told her that he was blackmailed into marriage. She thought she had found someone who loved her and was going to treat her with respect, Hero told her he was just a gold digger which he was, she tried to leave him because she just wanted/needed some pride something of her own. He kidnapped her flaunted his ex in front of her and told her it was her decision to stay or leave so she left. During that time she was trying to help him feal free of blackmail to help him which she does in the end. In the end he tells her that he has loved her all this time, but he hasn't had his chance to play the field with all the women out there, and he wanted her waiting for him when he was finished sleeping with all those women. I really can't remember weather he did say sorry, I know she did constantly for what I really have know idea. In the end he goes to her bedsit with a bunch of flowers and tells her how many women he slept with over the years saying that he loves her, to me that's a huge WTF moment because that's the end, they get back together, that's his excuse, he didn't want to marry her and wanted to sleep with other women so he did and humiliated her for 5 years though he still loved her and wanted her to be there waiting for him like frozen in time for when he was finished sleeping with these women, and she's supposed to love him, I really, really don't think so. The man is the biggest A definatly not a hero. I can't tell you how much I disliked this book.

the book wasn't that great , i mean lynne graham did write good books than this one , i didn't like that nick her husband ignored her for 5 years because her father blackmailed him into this marriage and in the same time he loved her at first sight !! how come !!and he cheats on her because she was 17 years old when he married her and he didn't want to consume the marriage only after 5 years .... she should be a nun !!!so i feel that nick character was complicated .... do not recommend this book that much.

I really enjoyed this book

I really enjoyed this book. I had read both "Angels & Demons" and "The Da Vinci Code," and found this novel to be a welcome departure from religion. Brown focuses on government conspiracies and scientific misinformation, and it's just as good of a story. I do think that the first 100 pages are very slow. I remember reading up to that point and thinking "oh, that's what this book is about." After the first 100 pages, the story picks up and becomes a suspenseful thrill-ride through the ice and snow. In the end, this was a great book that I recommend to anyone who enjoys Dan Brown books, or anyone who enjoys a good story! There are plenty of memorable moments, over-the-top action, and intrigue.

I bought this book as a gift for someone and then ended up reading it myself before they did. The hardback edition was great; the cover has held up remarkably well. I've thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Couldn't put it down!

Dan Brown did not disappoint with Deception Point! His knowledge is vast and impressive. This book is not as "symbolic" as Angels and Demons or The Da Vinchi Code, rather Brown intrigues us with his knowledge of scientific innovation. Deception Point is based on the (fictional) political scandal of the century! The Presidential hopeful uses NASA's failures to launch his campaign while the current President firmly stands behind NASA regardless of their past failures. Then NASA reveals the biggest news in the history of science, but did they make a mistake? The presidential hopeful's daughter, who already works for the President of the USA gets caught up in the scandal of all scandals and finds herself fighting for her life with no clue who she can trust with a cover-up of this magnitude in process. I loved it and couldn't stop reading late into the night...sometimes early into the morning! Let me know what you thought!

Spiritual Metaphysics with a Southern Baptist Flavor!

As a lover of teachers who try to open the minds of people to the reality of Oneness, I am now a big fan of Reverend Frederick Eikerenkoetter - better known as Reverend Ike. The best description I can give of this book would be "New Thought with Soul!" Rev Ike interprets the Bible esoterically rather than literally. This book is a fun-to-read spiritual study guide with 52 subjects that each have a separate chapter. Each chapter ends with a spiritual mind treatment and review questions. A few of the chapter titles are:
* Create Your Own Garden of Eden
* Will the Real Jesus Please Stand Up?
* You are what you feed your mind?
* Are You Ready for What You Want?
* The Treasure of God-In-You.
In addition to here on Amazon, you can also purchase the book from his website. I found it cheaper there.
These teachings reach beyond the teachings in popular books like "The Secret".

An eye-opening, life-changing book!

I've had this book for years. I'm not a religious person, but I am spiritual and I believe in the power of the mind and the power of my thoughts. That is what Rev. Ike teaches in this book. And believing in oneself and loving oneself because God is in You! It's so easy to read and to re-read. Each of the 52 chapters is self-contained and contains eye-opening teaching and affirmations that you can put to use right away. This book will change the way you look at life! A change for the better!. Also, for those who don't already know -- there are many wonderful Rev. Ike videos on YouTube. Just go to YouTube and search for Rev. Ike.

He is also the author of the Wiley titles Enhancing Trader Performance and The Psychology of Trading. Steenbarger received a BS from Duke University and a PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Kansas.

MUST-HAVE for Starting Your Trading Business

The Daily Trading Coach: 101 Lessons for Becoming Your Own Trading Psychologist (Wiley Trading)

This is my first Amazon.com review, and with excellent reason -- Dr. Steenbarger's latest book is his best yet!

Wall Street is the only place on earth where an expert and a novice have a 50-50 chance of winning. This is the human fascination with speculation.

Dr. Steenbarger's book provides 101 lessons every rookie and professional trader should---thanks to this book---be familiar with. Like his previous books, The Daily Trading Coach provides little jewels to improve your viewpoint from amateur trader to professional trader.

Compared to Van Tharp's books, Dr. Steenbarger takes an entirely different approach. Where Van Tharp focues on Position Sizing and Positive Expectancy systems, Dr. Steenbarger focuses on proper self-monitoring and self-coaching tips to improve performance over the daily uncertainty of Wall Street.

Combining Van Tharp & Brett Steenbarger's lessons, below are some commonly misunderstood facts of financial speculation:

1) It's not by making large profits that money is made over time. It's by consistently keeping losses small in relation to profits.

2) Making Money and Being Right are at opposite ends of the performance spectrum, and --- very surprisingly to most --- most professional traders admit their primary job is to minimize losses, NOT focus on being right. Why? Minizing losses (well over 50% of the time losses can't be avoided) ensures their average winner will be greater in relation to the average loser.

3) No one knows FOR SURE how much profit any trade is likely to make. Fortunately, it is possible to know THE INITIAL RISK a trader is willing to lose.

4) Projection of future prices are only a BEST GUESS, never a 100% certainty.

5) Top traders only control three things all the time: Initial Risk, Exits, and EMOTIONS...

Most professional traders keep emotions in check, and most admit that an emotional trader is a Dangerous Trader. I'm happily surprised to find Dr. Steenbarger support a different view.

Dr. Steenbarger uses research to argue that emotions can become a trader's best friend by fueling the drive to sustain change and modify a trader's behavior to enhance trading performance. Learning this is worth 1000x the price of the price of the book! Why? Because humans are naturally wired to act on emotions, and the human mind is the most complex to understand because emotions drive its actions unpredictably. Over 75% of the Daily Trading Coach is focused on harnessing the psychology of emotions to propel performance

It is said that Wall Street is the most expensive place to find yourself. Although this will always be the case, The Daily Trading Coach will certainly help reduce the cost of such an expensive lesson.

How to coach yourself to trading success

After reading over 100 books on trading, I believe this one could very well be the most important. Your mind will determine if you are successful or not in trading. When you trade you are competing with millions of other traders, investors, and institutions for profits. It is similar to being an athlete, and all athletes must have coaches to continually push them to higher levels of achievement through motivation and goals. With out the right coaching, careers stagnate and even go backwards. The beauty of this book is that it teaches you to coach yourself. The author is a trader and psychologist, and he coaches professional traders. His goal with this book is to teach his readers how to coach themselves to success with the same techniques he teaches the pros to use.
Here are some of the gems of wisdom you will find in this book:

"When we're most frustrated, but also most overconfident, we're likely to make our worst decisions and violate our trading principles."

This book has really improved my trading, by really teaching me to think correctly. It also reinforced my risk management strategies and showed me the importance of learning and growing. This is a must have for every trader's library.

A Must Read

The first time I met Dr. Steenbarger was in the smaller conference room of our proprietary trading firm in NYC. We were finalizing our training program and wanted the best teacher that we knew to review our work. He wasn't being paid, he was just a trading coach offering a helping hand. As Dr. Steenbarger offered his critique I was humbled by how much I still needed to consider. There was more work to be done.

I have traded my own account through the Asian Financial Crisis, the Tech Boom, the Internet Bubble, 9/11, and the recent near collapse of our banking system. Today I run SMB Capital, a proprietary trading desk. Yet TraderFeed and Dr. Steenbarger's writing is still essential reading for me. The Daily Trading Coach is no exception. It is simply a must read for the new, developing, and experienced trader.

As John Forman has done I should disclose that I am a proud contributor to the book. And I must admit my favorite part of this book is when Dr. Steenbarger makes fun of me for my overzealous contribution. Hey I was just trying to help.

When I first started my trading career in the late 90's you learned through osmosis. You sat next to an experienced trader and when they had time (if they had time?) they discussed their trading. The market is more complicated than when I began and this model frankly is outdated. One of the new techniques you must master is how to coach yourself, even if starting at an established firm with excellent mentoring. Start with the Daily Trading Coach.

Often new and developing traders mistakenly believe that learning from the best trader is the way to become great. If only this were true. The developing trader must find the best teacher. Dr. Steenbarger is the best trading teacher that I know.

The other day I received an email from a prospective trader asking me if everyone on our desk put up identical P&L since they all have access to the same trading plays. The experienced and developing trader are I am sure chuckling politely as they read. Not every trader possess the same trading skills and mental development. Psychology is the 800 pound gorilla in the room on every trading desk. Dr. Steenbarger is the godfather of techniques to clear our mental hurdles. There is so much more of this in the Daily Trading Coach. 101 lessons more to be exact.

Dr. Steenbarger has insider access to Hedge Fund traders, Investment Banks and proprietary trading firms that few do. His years of experience working with these groups has armed him with anecdotes and lessons that he has again passed along. Thank you Dr. Steenbarger.

This book sits in my office in Manhattan along with many other great trading books. I find myself often of late, rising from my chair, heading over to my book shelf, and rereading sections of the the Daily Trading Coach, as I consider how to best mentor one of our traders. The Daily Trading Coach is a trading gift that keeps on giving.
