About the Author
Harry Bouwman is the Finnish Distinguished Professor at the Institute for Advanced Management Systems Research, �bo Akademi University, Turku Finland, and the Associate professor at Delft University of Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Faculty Technology, Policy and Management, Delft, The Netherlands. He served as an interim chair of the ICT-section in the period 2000-2002, in 2004 and from 2007- 2009. He studied political science at the Free University of Amsterdam (1979). He is specialized in research methods and techniques, statistic and communication sciences. He followed courses in the domain of Computer Science at the Open University (1985-86). He received his PhD at Catholic University Nijmegen in 1986 at the Faculty of Social Science.

Bart van den Hooff is Professor of Organizational Communication and Information Systems. He has a PhD (with honors) in Communication from the University of Amsterdam. Before coming to the VU University, he worked in consultancy (M&I/Partners), at the Delft University of Technology and the University of Amsterdam. His research interests include the interaction between ICT, organization and individuals, knowledge sharing, distributed collaboration and online interaction. His work has been presented at international conferences and published in (among others) Journal of Management Studies, Organization Studies, Journal of Information Technology, Information & Management, Communication Research, European Journal of Information Systems and Information Processing & Management

Jan A.G.M. van Dijk is an internationally recognized expert in the field of communication, his specific interest being new media studies.� Van Dijk is the author of The Network Society (SAGE, 2012) and co-editor of Digital Democracy: Issues of Theory and Practice (SAGE, 2000).� He is an advisor of the European Commission in the Information Society Forum.� As a professor of Communication Science at Twente University,�van Dijk teaches and develops the sociology of the information society, in particular the social-cultural, political, and organizational aspects.�

I needed the book that day for homework and it was also cheaper to buy the kindle edition. I used it on my macbook and it worked perfectly. I'd recommend the kindle edition if you need it for class. But the book itself is hard to follow.

About the Author
Dean L. Gano is president of Apollonian Publications, LLC, which is dedicated to helping others become the best event-based problem solvers they can be by providing highly effective problem-solving tools in the form of books, online learning, and computer software. He brings more than forty years of experience in process industries, power plants, and computer software development to this endeavor. He started his incident investigation work and subsequent fascination with problem solving while working on solutions to the incident at the Three-Mile Island Nuclear Power Station in the late 1970s. He holds Bachelor of Science degrees in mechanical engineering and general science, was formerly certified as a nuclear reactor operator, and is a Vietnam veteran. He is a senior member of the American Society for Quality and the American Society of Safety Engineers.

This book is a bit of a mind F. Clearly intended to accompany the software he wants you to buy, but also lays out some very interesting philosophical underpinnings. It's too esoteric to apply with folks who are not all on the same page, so I would suggest using these techniques as a group rather than as a Lone Ranger.

Excellent African Photography Guide

I'm a professional wildlife photographer and spend a considerable time each year in Africa trying to get the best images possible. I'm always trying to improve my craft so have read several animal photography guide book recently (including several specifically written on African wildlife photography). Hands-down this is the by far the best guide I've ever read on this specifically subject. The author goes into great detail to explain why certain camera settings work with certain conditions or with certain types of images that you're trying to make. This is a wonderful book! If you've never been to Africa but planning to go, or if you're going back and want to improve your images, then this book is a "must have" for you.

Definitely not worth the price.

Having been to Africa on a photo safari, I ordered this book seeking additional advice. I was very disappointed. Considering the cost, I found the paper to look and feel very cheap. The images themselves were nice in terms of composition and action, but not very well printed. The photo advice was very basic and not necessary for anyone having at least some familiarity with a digital camera and lens. There were some good suggestions regarding composition, but again all very basic and of limited value to me. Indeed, there are better and cheaper books out there. Needless to say, after a quick but fairly thorough once over, I returned the book the next day.

Overpriced for what you get

Way overpriced for what you get IMO. The author is fascinated by lions and cheetahs. Nothing wrong with that, except that it seems 50+% of the photos are of lions or cheetahs, with most of the remainder being of big mammals. There are only a few photos of birds, and those only the large birds such as vultures and eagles. Many of the lion shots are taken at very close range which are among the easier photos to take in Africa.

The advice, which is what one pays for, seems simplistic to me. This may have value for a person who has never done any wildlife photography before, but for someone who is an active hobbyist, or pro, you probably already know all this (e.g. look at your histogram to check exposure) and the Africa-specific advice seems nothing more than what one could easily find on-line for free or a lot less money.

On a more subjective note, I was unhappy with the printing and photos in this book. It uses a large sans serif font and wide margins. On my copy the printing was weird with some pages having a dirty gray matte around the edge and others not. The author's photographs did not appeal to me either. It may be the printing again, since the colors seem unsaturated and the white balance off. The photos also appear to me either too sharpened or muddy like a watercolor. This may be an artifact of the non-glossy paper the book is printed on.

The author talks about his photo settings for different photos, but there are no illustrations about what the photo might look like if you had different or default settings, so the educational value is reduced.

The author's advice is generally good advice. My problem is that I learned very, very little from this expensive book, and did not get the inspiration I get from books like Art Wolfe's "Africa" (Africa Jane Goodall

Serious misunderstandings and outright errors

I am a professional trader, have an MBA from a major business school, and a decent amount of Finance PhD coursework, so I do know a bit of what I'm talking about. This is one of the worst trading books I have seen. It presents extremely simple time-series analysis, using methods the author developed in some cases (and mis-applied from existing techniques in other cases). The problem is, the math and tools to do these analysis already exists and is implemented in every statistical software available.

If you need more proof of this author's misunderstanding, turn to the last chapter where he discusses portfolio theory. You would think someone writing a book on stats would understand this, but he makes a fundamental error that no one who ever took a single finance class could make: He claims that "Beta-type risk" (market risk) can be reduced by holding a diversified portfolio if the correlations are negative!! This is absolutely wrong on two fronts -- Beta risk is specifically non-diversifiable (and to reduce company-specific risk the correlations just need to be less than 1, not negative). This is one example of the many many errors in this book.

One of the authors is an "investment advisor for Morgan Stanley"?! I wonder how that is working out...

Shrewd political insight!

This book puts political ideas into laymen's terms and gives the reader an easy to follow look into the use of "authenticity" in the last several presidential campaigns. I learned more about how the political landscape functions by reading this book, than I had in thirty years of watching from the sidelines. I will never look at candidates in the same way again. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about the inside world of politics.

My Name is Joey Myers, and I’m the founder of the Hitting Performance Lab. I've played 4 years of Division-1 baseball at Fresno State from 2000-2003. I’m a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), the International Youth and Conditioning Association (IYCA), and the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR). I’m also partnered with the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA). I’m a certified Youth Fitness Specialist (YFS) through the International Youth Conditioning Association (IYCA), Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and Vinyasa yoga instructor…AND, I’m also certified in the Functional Muscle Screen (FMS). I’ve spent 11+ years in the corrective fitness field, and have a passionate curiosity to help other players – just like yours – dramatically improve performance through the science of human movement.

I started implementing things like "showing numbers"

Clear, concise and extremely practical. Alternative title could have been the "Science of Hitting for Dummies". Joey's evidence based insights take the mystery out of productive hitting and packages it in a manner where as a coach I believe I can transfer it to the players on my 12u travel team. Prior to the publishing of this book, I had to piecemeal these lessons from Joey's videos, I started implementing things like "showing numbers", hiding hands", and "forward momentum" in late July 2016 with my team, we saw dramatic team hitting in improvement from August-Sept and went 9-1 during that period of time. My co-coaches and I only wish we started implementing the catapult methods early in the season.

Good book, but its selling you more

Good book. A little rambling and seems to use the book to sell you his video programs. 5 stars if he went into detail about how he trains his hitters and the progression he uses. For example, he gives his hitters homework. What types of homework? His system seems good with hitters whose overall swing is good, how does he help teach basic swing mechanics or does teaching CLS do so on its own naturally.

Best part, to me, was part on sticky coaching and not saying "good job" or providing to much feedback. His 3 questions are very good

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to increase power in ...

After reading the book I applied one of the big three principles of the book to my 9 year old son's swing. He's the smallest player on his team and wanted to hit the ball further. We used a Zepp to records his swing data. He was able to increase his bat speed by 10% after incorporating one principle in his swing during a quick session at the batting cage. I pitched him batting practice on the field that day and he was consistently hitting the ball much further. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking to increase power in their swing. You might be surprised to find out something very simple that is never really taught to young hitters by most coaches. I look forward to applying more of Coach Myers' principles to my son's swing over time to see the outcome.
