Going beyond Istanbul, the book also studies three different but entangled late Ottoman areas: Palestine, the largely Kurdo-Armenian eastern provinces and the Aegean shores; all of which were confronted with new claims from national movements that questioned the Ottoman state. All would remain regions of conflict up to the present day. Using new primary material, World War I and the End of the Ottomans brings together analysis of the key forces which undermined an empire, and marks an important new contribution to the study of the Ottoman world and the Middle East.

Brilliant

Pretend by Jennifer Plecas is a wonderful story book about the wonder of imagination as well as a gentle reminder that parents need to play with their kids on their kids level. Children play and pretend all day as a method of learning as well as for the pure enjoyment of it. It's sad that so few parents (adults) allow themselves to pretend and thus lose the essence of our younger selves.

The reading level is 1st-2nd grade and the illustrations are soft, colorful, and child-like. This book has a vibe of simplicity and purity that elevates it from the rest of the competition for your money. Considering I got it at a budget overstock store (Ollie's) for about three bucks, the value is tremendous.

Put down the video control, the remote, the electronic device, turn the living room into a fantasy setting, and spend some true quality time with your child(ren). In case you forgot how to, this book is your manual. Highly recommended.

Reminder to Dad

This is a book a parent should read with their child. The child would love it, and it could lead the parent into remembering they need to let go and pretend once in a while. Parent and child would create memories for a lifetime. Parents need to think about what children remember most about their childhood. Did Dad or Mom play with them and pretend, or did they work all the time to get the "toys" the family thought they couldn't live without? Read this book to remember what is amazing about pretent. Great book to give new fathers and fathers that may need a gentle reminder what DADS do.

Pretend to perfection

This book is fantastic! The story of a boy wanting his dad to play with him and then the process of bringing dad out of dad's adult reality and into fantasy! I picked it up by chance in another brick and mortar bookstore, and was immediately taken in by it's sweet and adventurous spirit. The illustrations work wonderfully with the text. My 2 year old will be getting this book for Christmas this year!

Besides giving his age (365 years), the book of Genesis says of him only that he "walked with God," and afterward "he was not, because God had taken him" (Gen. 5:24). This exalted way of life and mysterious demise made Enoch into a figure of considerable fascination, and a cycle of legends grew up around him. Many of the legends about Enoch were collected already in ancient times in several long anthologies. The most important such anthology, and the oldest, is known simply as The Book of Enoch, comprising over one hundred chapters. It still survives in its entirety (although only in the Ethiopic language) and forms an important source for the thought of Judaism in the last few centuries B.C.E. Significantly, the remnants of several almost complete copies of The Book of Enoch in Aramaic were found among the Dead Sea Scrolls, and it is clear that whoever collected the scrolls considered it a vitally important text. All but one of the five major components of the Ethiopic anthology have turned up among the scrolls. But even more intriguing is the fact that additional, previously unknown or little-known texts about Enoch were discovered at Qumran. The most important of these is The Book of Giants.
• he Book of Enoch, written during the second century B.C.E., is one of the most important non-canonical apocryphal works, and probably had a huge influence on early Christian, particularly Gnostic, beliefs. Filled with hallucinatory visions of heaven and hell, angels and devils, Enoch introduced concepts such as fallen angels, the appearance of a Messiah, Resurrection, a Final Judgement, and a Heavenly Kingdom on Earth. Interspersed with this material are quasi-scientific digressions on calendrical systems, geography, cosmology, astronomy, and meteorology.

Incredible images! And very scary facts!

I purchased this book last year (from a store merchant here in Amazon which have a library of books on ancient civilizations & their involvement in mysteries).

My grandfather had the original book way back in the early 1970's, which also at that time I saw an article printed in LIFE magazine which was a weekly journal (much like National Geographic). I have never forgotten those images and I was truly surprised to have found a printing press in these days reprinting the stories and images I saw way back then. Furthermore, the Scriptures supports the relevant information ... even to this day! (For example, we have well-learned scientists who are studying transhumanism (which is the study of how to perfect human beings with modified DNA coding. True story, in Turkey, a sheep gives birth to a lamb with a human face! Google the story [see for yourself].

Apparently, this is not the first of its kind. There are many true stories, but only if we just take the time to read and ponder with who we're residing on earth.

Wonderful how to book for coloring enthusiasts

Wonderful how to book for coloring enthusiasts! Provides a great deal of tips, explains a number of things - such as color wheels, warm and cool colors, etc., that the average colorist probably doesn't know. Even better, once something is explained, there are exercises to practice what you have just learned! I have learned a great deal from this book, and highly recommend it to any one who is looking to improve their coloring skills.

Grade "A" Guide

This is a very well organized guide for anyone new to colored pencils. It is well illustrated and fairly comprehensive in topics covered. There are drawings on many of the pages where you can practice the technique being discussed without having to flip back and forth in the book. There are 9 perforated pages in the back of the book (printed double sided) with full size drawings by various artists. There is also a convenient index at the end for quick reference to the techniques described.

The paper is a very good quality. It's not equivalent to Enchanted Forest or Summer Nights but is thicker than the Creative Haven type books--not knocking Creative Haven books as I have several that I enjoy working in--just explaining about the paper in this book.

The experienced colorist will probably not find very many new ideas or techniques to try, but I wish I had something like this when I bought my first coloring book--can we say totally clueless? I highly recommend this book to anyone who is beginning their journey into the highly addicting coloring book hobby, or to anyone wanting to try expand their reportoire of techniques.

For a good overview of coloring and some wonderful techniques, this book is one of the best!

If you are just beginning in coloring, this is a MUST HAVE. If you have quite a bit of experience, this book is a great reference.

I must say that the previous reviewer was so disappointed over lack of content. I must disagree with her on that point. Considerable time is given to b!ending, shading, various media. I have a rather larger collection of books, and they're is not a single book that covers all of the topics that she listed. Might I suggest that if you want to learn how to color water droplets, for example, there are numerous wonderful videos on Utube. I belong to a fantastic Facebook group that is about gray scale coloring and they publish loads of videos on these topics. I keep telling them that a a book would be nice, but in the mean time, taking advantage of the videos!

Now that I am back on topic, this book is a wonderful look at coloring over all. It tells about the numerous types of media that are available and all of their plus's and minus's. (Forgive my terrible spelling).
